Most people realize the difference a college education can make in their lives. But if you’re the first in your family to do so, the impact can be extraordinary.

You overcame the obstacles you faced -- obstacles of income and resources, education and encouragement. You worked hard to succeed and you made it. You graduated. Share your story with students attempting to walk the same path. Tell them what you faced and how you overcame those challenges. Inspire them and encourage them. By your example, you can help them to help themselves.

“I was lucky to have a mentor who believed in me…and when I became the first in my family to graduate from college, a profound change occurred in my life and the cycle of poverty in my family ended forever.”
